The Liston.io Monthly Review – Semptember 2018

This is the second installment of my monthly update. Click here to read last month’s monthly review.

Let me start by saying that August was all about creating content.

I created a lot of content for my Consulting Sales Bootcamp and I also prepared a lot of content for The Liston.io Show.

Last month, one of my main goals was to grow my podcast, and I’ve seen a lot of growth. The same has happened to my Facebook group, Consulting Power Up (you can join here).

But, on the other hand, my LinkedIn growth strategy has slowed down and it’s not as aggressive as it once was.

Let’s dig in.

What’s Will You Learn In This Monthly Review

  • Why I’m Focusing On Podcasting
  • What’s New With The Liston.io Show
  • The Consulting Sales Bootcamp
  • A View To My Marketing Mix

Why I’m Focusing On Podcasting

Right now, I have a pretty good following on LinkedIn, which is another reason I’m doing this podcast.

As a consultant, I see myself as a provider of information and content, but LinkedIn sucks for longer-form content.

It does support long-form articles, but this feature is largely underutilized because LinkedIn doesn’t deliver that content to people really well. I’m syndicating my articles on LinkedIn and Medium for good measure, but I don’t expect much readership there. LinkedIn is optimized for short-form content, but I aim at creating longer content where you can get a better idea of who I am. I like developing larger arguments and bigger ideas.

That’s why I’m devoting a lot of time to the podcast instead of LinkedIn. And because I think audio is growing. Audio is becoming one of the biggest media channels and people are listening to more content every day.

Another important thing about audio is that listeners can do other things while listening to a podcast.

On LinkedIn, I’ve produced a lot of videos, which requires more attention. Audio fits into your schedule and you can take it with you while doing other things.

What’s New With The Liston.io Show

I launched The Liston.io Show on July 5. It’s been almost 3 months since I released the first episode. My goal for the podcast was to get 2,000 downloads by now, and after failing my first month’s goal of 1,000 downloads, I took the matter seriously and started an aggressive marketing campaign.

It worked!

On August, I got 2,639 downloads, that’s a 267% growth in a single month.

But my ultimate, ultimate goal is to get 10,000 downloads per episode, so there’s still a long way to go to get to that point.

I have about 416 subscribers. That’s awesome. I’ve been working really hard to increase that number, not for vanity metrics, but to develop my expertise and authority in the market. I want people exposed to my message, and that’s why podcasting is such a great tool.

But, it’s not all puppies and ice cream with the show.

I do have some weaknesses, of course.

For instance, my organic promotion just sucks.

I’ve been publishing content on my Facebook group and I hired a writer to turn the podcast episodes into articles (thank you, Diego), but there’s still some work to do to achieve my organic promotion goals.

The Consulting Sales Bootcamp

The Consulting Sales Bootcamp is an online learning experience that I launched in July. Its goal is to help people build a sales process, know what to do in that process, and, ultimately, sell with confidence.

I want people to enjoy the process and look forward to it instead of dreading it. This is the structure of the Consulting Sales Bootcamp:

  • 8 Modules
  • 8 Weeks Long
  • 5-7 Lessons
  • 1-Hour Of Content Per Lesson
  • A Quiz

So far, I think I’ve put around 100 hours into developing the content since the end of June and I’m super excited about it.

A View Of My Marketing Mix

What Happened To My LinkedIn

Last month, I posted a video on my Facebook group where I run down my analysis of how LinkedIn is changing its algorithm.

I found that my reach is diminishing, and while I’m not unhappy with having 2,000 or 3,000 views on my videos, the number is going down significantly.

I believe that LinkedIn is changing to a pay-to-play platform and that if you want to increase your reach, you’ll have to pay. However, that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop posting there. On the contrary, I’ll keep growing my connections and posting content, but I’ll also try to find more ingredients to create a healthier marketing mix (like the podcast).

The Consulting Power Up Facebook Group

The Facebook group has grown consistently over the past month, even though I’ve done a mediocre job of growing it. But I think that once I start pushing a bit more, I’ll see it grow even more than my LinkedIn.

What I’ve noticed is that Facebook groups allow me to interact in a longer, deeper, more meaningful way with people, which is something I don’t see on LinkedIn.

Liston.io

Even though I have a deep background in copywriting and marketing, I decided to hire someone to redo the copy and the design of my homepage. Now that I know more about my business, I wanted to engage with someone who does websites professionally. More than anything, I wanted an outside opinion and an objective view of what I’m doing and how effective it is, so you’ll probably see a new, revamped website once you enter.

My New Sales Funnel

This is one of the biggest things I’ve been working on.

One part of this funnel is the Five Email Templates you can get once you enter my site.

Basically, what I want to do is give you more and better content. Content that has an immediate application and value and the templates are a great way to do it.

Last Words And Key Takeaways

That’s it, that was my monthly review!

As you can see, I’m doing a lot of marketing and spending a lot of time to fill my funnel and build a pipeline to have enough people exposed to my offer.

This month has been great. I’ve taken my time to reorganize and refocus so my content reaches more people while still providing enough value for all of you.

  • You’ll still see me on LinkedIn
  • Don’t forget to subscribe to The Liston.io Show
  • I’m going on vacation!!!!

I’m really excited about all those things, and I’m happy to share them with you.

Thanks for being here 🙂
